Mixed Doubles in Celbridge Tennis Club is very vibrant.
The Friday Mixed is suitable to League Standard players and takes place every Friday night from 7.30 to 9pm from October to May. The night finishes up with a cuppa and a few biscuits. There is a small fee of €3 and players need a partner to participate.
On Monday nights at 7.30pm, an American Tournament is run for beginners/intermediate players. No partner is needed to participate in this tournament.
In 2016, we had four teams (with over 35 players) participating in the DLTC leagues. Our first team made it to the final of the Class 1 mixed league, but were unfortunately beaten by a very strong Ratoath team. Our third team made it through to the play-offs, but were narrowly beaten by Aer-Lingus. In 2017, we intend to enter 5 mixed teams into the League as the demand from members was so high to participate in the Mixed League.
On 17th July 2016, we held a Mid-Summer Tournament with 25 players participating in it. This tournament was open to all players and finished up with a barbecue (very kindly given by David Lander and his son) in the glorious sunshine (see photo).
In March/April 2017, we will be holding three Mixed Doubles Compass Tournaments. These are on an invitational basis only.
On 15th April 2017 (Easter Sunday), we will be holding a Spring Lamb Tournament. This tournament is open to ALL members.
The club also participates in external tournaments throughout the year. In April 2017, we will have two two teams participating in the Provincial Towns Tournament.
In July 2017, we hope to have teams participating in the Business House League tournament in Clane. Information on this tournament will be circulated to all members by email later this year.
During the year, friendly mixed matches have been arranged between Clane, Naas and other clubs.
