Welcome to Celbridge and District Lawn Tennis Club

Celbridge and District Lawn Tennis Club was founded in the 1920s. The club moved to its present location on Hazelhatch Road in 1940 and our present clubhouse dates from 1992. During 2024, we celebrated the club’s centenary year.

Our club facilities

Thanks to a Sports Capital Grant that was awarded to the club in 2023, plus significant investment from the club, we resurfaced our all-weather courts and installed new energy-friendly LED lights on court. These upgrades reached completion during our centenary year celebrations in 2024.

At our club, you will find:

  • 6 all-weather courts, which can be booked using Club Manager 365
  • LED lights on court, which make our courts available for play, all year round
  • Ladies and men’s changing and showering facilities
  • A table tennis table
  •  Tea and coffee-making facilities are available in our clubroom upstairs overlooking the courts. This large and comfortable clubroom can accommodate up to 50 persons for social events at the club and is used on a daily basis for an after-tennis cuppa and following various competition games.

Tennis Ireland

Celbridge & District Lawn Tennis Club is also a member of Tennis Ireland.

Tennis Ireland Clubmark is the National Governing Bodies Club Accreditation Programme and Celbridge LTC is currently a Silver Level Award holder.

About the Club

In 1923 Celbridge & District Lawn Tennis came into existence here where the ESB power houses are located on Primrose Hill. It was founded by Rev E.L.B Barker, Captain E. J.C. Maunsell, Major E. Conolly and Fr. Joseph Furlong. It was because of their drive and that of so many other volunteers over the past 100 years that we are here today celebrating our centenary in 2023.

When the land of the original site was sold in around 1930 the club moved to the corner of Hazelhatch/Simmonstown road /Green Lane. In 1940 the Pavilion was burned down. After this the club moved to its present site on the Hazelhatch road on land leased from the O’Connor family. In 1941 the club purchased a Nissen hut to act as its clubhouse.

The club purchased the land from Nuala O’ Connor in the 1980’s and courts were being prepared for use. On the 25th July 1981 the official opening of the hard courts took place and floodlights followed soon after.

In the 1990’s plans were submitted for a new clubhouse. Interest free Bonds were offered to members to help fund the clubhouse. Work began on the foundations for the current club house in 1992.
